Greetings First name / friend, It's me, your friend Jen in Brooklyn, NY.
I've been thinking a lot about secrets. We hold so many inside and yet people think they know us so well. Our secrets are what make us strong, mysterious, and relentlessly unique. When a person claims they have you all figured out, share a secret to remind them there's always more to learn about the dear people you love.Â
In this issue: My human organization tool, a tool for people starting their own bizz, simple advice nobody ever remembers to follow, new books on my reading list, and how I got obsessed with selling my clothes.Â
Why you’re getting this: I'm Jen Glantz and this is the Pick-Me-Up newsletter. I've been sending it every Monday, for 8-years, to thousands of awesome humans, just like you. Thanks for letting this email live in in your inbox. It truly makes my heart explode with joy.
THE PICK-ME-UP
August is the month when I start to doubt everything.
We're halfway through the year, love bug, and what do you have to show for it?
I started to look at my year bucket-list, my summer goals, and even the promises I made in July that I didn't follow through on, and I get a teary eyed.Â
What is it going to take, Jen, for you to do the things you actually wanted to do this year?
Is it going to take a reward system?
Is it going to take personal sacrifices (AKA no more binging Netflix shows)
Is it going to take more failure and more time wasted?
I know what it's not going to take: me being mean to myself over all that I haven't done.
So here's what I'm doing:
I'm rereading the list of things I accomplished every month so far in 2022. I keep this list glued above my desk and update it on the last day of the month.
I'm looking at my year bucket list and picking 2 of 10 things that I want to do this month. That's it. Just 2. One I will get done before August 15th and the other, before the end of the month.
I will find 2 things to cut out of my month that are time wasters (most likely will hide my TV remote and also delete the TikTok app off my phone).
August is the month I start to believe, once again, that years in our life can be different, stand-out, extraordinary, even if they weren't that way so far.
If you had one month to change it all, to finally start, to let go of the things that hold you back, wouldn't August make a good month for that?
All my love,
Jen GlantzÂ
Random Pick-Me-UpsÂ
Okay, I'll admit it. I didn't read a book during COVID. I watched a lot of TikTok and TV shows (like The Wild & The Rehearsal - both amazing). But now I want to get back in the habit of consuming books so I added these new ones to my bookshelf this week. I'm excited to tune out and read more again in August.Â
My new favorite browser extension
I've been working hard to stay focused lately. After taking a few days off work to handle COVID, I needed to get so much done. I dowloaded this free browser extension to block out distractions. So far it's good, I just have to always hide my phone too.
A simple piece of advice I never remember to followÂ
One thing about us cute little humans is that we are always looking for complicated answers to help us with our complicated problems. Sometimes it's the simple advice that can be the biggest catalyst in our lives. I'm sharing a story on this week's podcast about silly advice anyone can follow and how it can switch up the way you've been feeling.Â
Selling your stuff is a lot of funÂ
I'm working with Poshmark on a TikTok video and I had to download the app for the partnership. OKAY, I'm obsessed. I never used it before but listed a few things that I had in my giveaway pile for the last month. I didn't make any cash yet but if I sell the 4 items I listed, I'll make more than $50, which is good coffee or ice cream shop cash to have in my pocket. It's a super easy-to-use app and took me 10-minutes to list 4 items.Â
I didn't open up my coaching schedule for most of 2022 to focus on other projects, but I've decided to release (3) coaching spots for the month of August and September. If you've ever wanted to work with me on: your personal brand, future goals, fixing your career, or starting a successful business, grab a coaching spot and let's get to working together.Â
The End
Thanks for reading the Pick-Me-Up Newsletter. If you know someone who'd adore getting this in their inbox, will you send them this link? And if you want to keep in touch this week, you can find me on Instagram, Linkedin, and TikTok (for a real odd time).
Until next Monday, I'll be rooting for you and cheering you on! Have an epic week.
Jen GlantzÂ
p.s. I'm having too much fun making these shopping hauls. What do you think?
