PICK-ME-UP: WHERE DO YOU BELONG?
Hello! Greetings from the airplane. I'm up in the sky on the way back to New York City, back to my apartment, back to a city I pay an exorbitant amount of money to live in annnnnndddd I feel sad about it.
I've been living in NYC for 10-years. Is that enough? Is it time to bow out, pack my bags, and head for the woods somewhere? I've always wanted to move to Montana, you know?
When it comes to knowing where I belong, I feel lost these days. It's the kind of feeling that makes my mouth heavy, like it's juggling marbles. So I don't speak about it with anyone, except for you, and I know that one day I'll figure out where to go, but until then, let me just try to desperately attempt to ruthlessly fall back in my love with my city.
In this issue: A note for you for when you feel stuck, cities that will pay you to move there, and what to do when you run into someone you haven't seen in years.
Why you’re getting this: I'm Jen Glantz and this is my Monday Pick-Me-Up newsletter. I've been sending it for over 8-years, every single Monday morning, to thousands of awesome humans, just like you. Thank you for letting this email live in in your inbox. It makes my heart explode with joy.
The Pick-Me-Up: When You Run Into a Person You Haven't Seen in Years
There's this dazzling romantic part of my personality that hopelessly believes when you run into someone you haven't seen in a long time, there's a reason for it, and you should say hello.
But the more practical and shy part of my personality believes you should stop, pivot, and speed walk as fast as possible away from them. Snap your fingers. Pray you become invisible.
Oh that didn't work? Just run.
What is there to say when you see a person after so many years?
"Yes, it's me Jen Glantz. It's been a while. Sure, things are okay. How about you? Of course I remember when........ I don't really miss those days, do you? Yes, I still use that same typewriter. I can't believe you remember that. Anyway, it was great seeing you. My number? Yes! It's the same. Lunch? Oh, let's have lunch. I'll call you...soon."
I bet there's a lot to say but most of the time, when I see someone I haven't seen in a while, I forget about it all.
I turn a little red, clear my throat, hope they don't recognize me, and continue on with my life as if they are in it, only from a distance.
All my love,
Jen Glantz
