PICK-ME-UP: SIT ON THE BENCH
Hello! Greetings from Brooklyn. I'm back home after spending quality time in LA, Florida, and Chicago - practically back-to-back.
Now that I'm back, I want to work on making the city I live in feel like a vacation. I want to try new restaurants, walk around new blocks, do the things the tourists do when they come and visit Brooklyn.
I'm someone who is restless unless they are in they are on-the-go, exploring the new, but after being gone from my neighborhood for so long, It's made me realize that we don't need to travel to feel like we've runaway, we just have to make what is around us feel less like home and more like an adventure.
In this issue: Why it's good to slow down, tips on how to manage your calendar, a motivational Monday message, and what I'm reading right now.
Why you’re getting this: I'm Jen Glantz and this is my Monday Pick-Me-Up newsletter. I've been sending it for over 8-years, every single Monday morning, to thousands of awesome humans, just like you. Thank you for letting this email live in in your inbox. It makes my heart explode with joy.
The Pick-Me-Up: Chicago is a Place That Feels Like…
The first time I ever came to Chicago was in 2014 to be a guest on the Steve Harvey Show.
They flew me in for less than 24-hours and when I arrived at my hotel, at 11pm on a Tuesday, I went out for a walk to get pizza. But nothing was open.
“Ma’am this isn’t New York City,” the man at the front desk of my hotel reminded me. “Things don’t stay open till the sun rises. We close at normal times. We rest. Then we wake up and do it again.”
I ordered fast food pizza and ate it in my hotel bed thinking about how we become so much like the cities we sink into.
In New York, I’m high-speed chasing nothing, but I’m fast.
In Los Angeles, I tip-toe to the places I need to be so I can slow dance with the sun.
In Chicago, I jog but then I let myself stop and sit on a bench in the middle of the afternoon for no reason other than sometimes it’s important to remember the bench is there for people to rest and I am a person who sometimes needs that.
I’m always staying open till the sun rises, but in Chicago I feel like I remember it’s okay to close at a normal time, rest, wake up and do it all again.
All my love,
Jen Glantz

I bet you know this already - but I love listening to dance songs when I work. It gives me energy and helps me focus. It might be a weird trait of mine but if you can relate - press play on this playlist.
A little motivation for when you feel like you need help standing up for yourself. This is the ultimate pick-me-up that you might need this morning.
