Greetings First name / friend, It's me, your friend Jen. I'm in sunny Florida right now. It's a brave choice being in Florida this time of year. It's hot hot hot.
I was reading a fiction book last night that had a self-help motivational quote in it that hit me hard. Inaction is a sign of action. If you're stuck or you can't make a decision, the art of doing nothing (or not that thing) is actually you making a decision. Let that fizzle in your gut. If it doesn't feel settling, it means it might be time to start doing what you've been secretly been putting off.
In this issue:
Why you’re getting this: I'm Jen Glantz and this is the Pick-Me-Up newsletter. I've been sending it every Monday, for 8-years, to thousands of awesome humans, just like you. Thanks for letting this email live in in your inbox. It truly makes my heart explode with joy.
THE PICK-ME-UP
When's the last time you asked yourself this incredibly simple question:
WHAT DO YOU WANT?
Really, what is it that you want?
Recently, when I get together with friends, I ask them that question and they eyeball me like I'm an alien that just landed on earth and asked them for a million dollars.
It's a tough question because we spend 87% of our time (a rough estimate) just trying to power through the day-to-day noise and to-do lists. We hardly ever have a vision for our future or an answer to what we actually want out of our one precious life. And so, we live it, but we live it in a way that's not super fulfilling or even close to the expectations we have that we're gargled and swallowed and stored deep down.
I heard this confidence coach, Regina Bonds, on the TODAY Show say this:
“What you can't explain can't be obtained.”
If you can't put into words what you crave for your life, how can it come true? How can it become your life?
So in order to get better at expressing what I want, I'm doing this:
When people ask me simple questions like: what do you want for dinner or where do you want to meet on Sunday? Rather than answering: I don't care! You pick! I'm going to actually come up with an idea and share that idea. It will help me practice admitting what I want.
I'm going to write a list of what I want for August and then September. Then I'll share that list with Adam, a friend, and a stranger (get ready to hear this, strangers of NY). Why? Because it makes what I want feel reel and obtainable.
When I'm in a situation and it doesn't feel right, I'm going to ask myself this question: why don't I want this? Knowing what you don't want can help you inch closer to what you do want.
So, my lovely dear friend, answer this:
WHAT DO YOU WANT?
Cheering you on.
All my love,
Jen Glantz
Random Pick-Me-Ups
All it takes is one trip to the library and my love of reading has suddenly re-entered my heart. If you're eager to get back into reading, here's an article about how to get that reading spark back. Some books I took out this week include: One Italian Summer (quick read that's beautiful), Florida (short stories all set in Florida), Open Book (my friend highly recommended this to me), and Attached (a great book that calls our your attachment style).
Looking for some odd ways to make cash $$
I'm a sucker for new and interesting ways to make money. I found this article about how to make money if you love candy (sign me up - seriously) and this article about cities that will pay you to move there (ehh idk if i'd do that). I also write this weekly newsletter all about odd jobs - like how to increase your chances of winning the lotto. This week's podcast is also all about the best odd job based on your personality and interest - press play!
I did a little online shopping this weekend and here are some of the things I bought - hopefully it gives you a little inspo. if you're in the market for some new stuff like: an everyday bag, a simple side table that picks up the colors of your home, a new desk chair because I overused my current one during the pandemic, these cute little ice trays, and these gift bags but I also use them as everyday bags.
I love the band AJR - their music is so upbeat and positive. Here's a new song they put out that I've been blasting on repeat today so far.
The most popular course I offer is this one on personal branding. Why do 10+ people take this course a month? Because your personal brand is constantly evolving, changing, and growing. Yet we don't always know how to update it and share it with the world in a way that can help us land new opportunities. This course involves 1:1 feedback, video lessons, and assignments.
The End
Thanks for reading the Pick-Me-Up Newsletter. If you know someone who'd adore getting this in their inbox, will you send them this link? And if you want to keep in touch this week, you can find me on Instagram, Linkedin, and TikTok (for a real odd time).
Until next Monday, I'll be rooting for you and cheering you on! Have an epic week.
Jen Glantz
p.s. I'm having too much fun making these shopping hauls. What do you think?
