PICK-ME-UP: WHEN LIFE DOES NOT FEEL LIKE A ROM-COM
Hello! Greetings from Brooklyn. I'm back! You better believe the first thing I did when I got home (after many weeks away) was eat a slice of pizza. Was it good? Of course it was.
It's good to be home but I'm not here for long. I'm heading to Chicago next so if you have any pizza recommendations in the windy city, hit that reply button and share.
In this issue: What to do when life doesn't feel like a rom com, how to deal with a friendship breakup, and a podcast on issues I have with food and my eating.
Why you’re getting this: I'm Jen Glantz and this is my Monday Pick-Me-Up newsletter. I've been sending it for over 8-years, every single Monday morning, to thousands of awesome humans, just like you. Thank you for letting this email live in in your inbox. It makes my heart explode with joy.
The Pick-Me-Up: Joy Vs. Sorrow
LAST WEEKEND:
I watched four random rom-coms you've probably never heard of before...the kinds of movies that you stumble upon after scrolling for many minutes deep inside some super specific category on a streaming service.
Help me find a love story. I whispered to the TV and the TV pulled up a bunch of 2.5 star rated flicks, with actresses and actors I had never heard of before, and plot lines that sound like they've been stolen from some other movie, stuck in a shredder, and rewritten to create this brand new film.
Dear friend:
Those are the kinds of movies I'm a sucker for the most.
I ended up watching one called Finding You and during the last 5-minutes, I cried my eyes out. Almost as much as I did in the theatre when I saw the movie Marley and Me.
Maybe it was because it was my 3rd rom-com of the night (yes, I didn't leave the couch on Saturday night) or because the writing was special, but I pulled out my phone and jotted down this quote. I'm sharing it with you on this Monday because someone, I don't know who, but someone can benefit from this simple little line of dialogue from a 2.5 star rated movie that made tears tumble down my cheeks.
Life rarely works out the way we planned. We have to learn to play the sorrow as well as the joy. They can feel linked at times and you can't have one without the other.
May this Monday be one of joy for you, my friend. If you're holding on to some sorrow, know that joy isn't too far out of reach. It will re-enter your life when you least expect it. Hold on, you are almost there.
All my love,
Jen Glantz

Monday Pick-Me-Ups:
I was looking for a sweet pump up song for the morning and I found this tiny desk performance from someone I adore.
I adore short stories and this book kept me turning the pages all throughout the night. I finished the entire thing in 4-hours and wish it didn't end. The stories are dark and painful to read but the writing was phenomenal.
This week, on You're Not Getting Any Younger podcast, I have a guest on who talks about food - disordered eating, figuring out how to add new habits into your life, and so much more.
How to Handle a Friendship Break Up
I wrote this article for NBC a few years ago after a best friend broke up with me. I felt so sad, heartbroken, and alone. I wondered if anyone else had gone through this. Turns out, it happens quite often. Here's why.
